As an alternative to center and large group care, the Child and Youth Services division offers an option to parents who prefer a small nurturing enviornment for their children. Family Child Care (FCC) offers small multi-age group care in a home enviornment. FCC professionals provide a variety of home care options for children ages 4 weeks to 12 years old.
FCC providers and families’ background are checked through state and federal agencies to assure parents that their children are getting safe care. Prior to certification, these FCC professionals recieve 40 hours of training, have had required health assesment and an interview both at home and in office. Specialists in fire, safety, and health inspect the homes prior to certification and annually thereafter. On-going training, support, monitoring, and unannounced inspections are provided and all regulatory requirements are strictly enforced. Providers are independent contractors, hence, they develop their own programs and activities based on developmentally appropriate practices. Training and educational opportunities can lead to a Child Development Associate (CDA) or National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) Accreditation for FCC professionals.
